1. Concept of Quench oilHeat treatment is a process in which the metal material is kept in a solid state, heated to a specified temperature, and after a period of heat preservation, the process of cooling and reheating the metal within a specified time; a metal thermal processing technology is obtained by heat treatment to obtain the expected structure and properties of metal.
Quenching oil is a cooling medium needed for heat treatment of metallic materials, and it is a kind of processing oil.
2. Characteristics of quench oil
Good cooling performance
Cooling performance is an important performance of quenching oil, its quality directly affects the quality of quenching parts. Good cooling performance can ensure that the parts after quenching have certain hardness and qualified metallographic structure, which can prevent parts from deforming and cracking.
High flash point and ignition point
When quenching, the temperature of oil will increase instantaneously. If the flash point and ignition point of oil are low, it may cause fire. Therefore, quenching oil should have high flash point and ignition point. Usually, the flash point should be 60-80℃higher than the use of oil temperature.
Good thermal oxidation stability
The quenching oil is used in the harsh conditions of high temperature and continuous operation for a long time. It requires oil products to have good anti-oxidation, thermal decomposition and anti aging properties, so as to ensure the cooling performance and service life of the oil.
Low viscosity
The viscosity of oil is related to its adhesion, carrying loss and cooling performance. Under the premise of ensuring the cooling performance and flash point of the oil, the viscosity of the oil should be as small as possible, so that it can not only reduce the carrying loss, but also facilitate the cleaning of the work piece.
Low content of water
Excessive moisture in oil products will affect the quality of heat treatment of parts, causing soft spots, quenching or cracking of parts, or oil spattering and accidents. The general provisions require that quenching oil in water content shall be not more than 0.05%.
Other characteristics
Besides the above characteristics, quenching oil should also be non-toxic, tasteless, easy to handle, pollute the environment, and make the surface of the hardened work piece bright.
